Storage capacity as an important factor in your successful logistics
In logistics, the main criterion for the functionality of a storage system is its storage capacity. Regardless of whether you outsource your logistics processes or use your own premises, it is important to calculate the right space for efficient storage of goods.
Storage capacity can be measured in the following units:
- Monetary value
- Tons
- Cubic metres
- Linear metre
The way storage capacity of a warehouse is measured may also depend on the specific type of work: Different areas of storage have their own accepted units.
Linear metre: Meaning and application
While the other units of measurement are more or less known, the linear metre sometimes raises the question of its definition and the correctness of its calculation.
The running metre is primarily a unit of measurement for the length of running or rolled goods. These are those products that are usually delivered in “rolls”, such as wallpaper or fabrics.
Linear metre finds its use in such fields as the textile industry and construction. But running metre is also used in logistics when calculating storage space under the name of shelf metre.
Calculating the running metre
